In the attempt to save as many kilos as possible, the future generation of the SL-Klasse will make extensive use of carbon fiber components.
It appears that Daimler has recently signed an agreement with the Japanese firm Toray, that engaged in producing and supplying carbon fiber parts to Mercedes-Benz. The components will be assembled at a plant located in France and the first "customer" of the carbon treatment will be the all new SL-Klasse roadster (R 231 series), set to make its world debut by the end of 2012 or in the early 2013. Up to then, engineers continue the thorough testing of the hardtop model;latest spy photos were captured while the car was running on the Ring.
