Mercedes-Benz-Blog TRIVIA: Modern classics: the Mercedes-Benz SL of the R 129 series
The R 129 generation of the SL-Class became famous in the automotive history through its puristic design, penned by Bruno Sacco. The solid, yet very attractive and sporty look, is a clear indication of the well-known Mercedes-Benz cabriolet hallmark. The SL of the R 129 series started its career in 1989 and, for the first time in the automaker's history, featured a fully automated retractable roof. Within its 12-year lifespan, the SL went through important changes, such as the addition of new power variants and two exterior restyling operations.
